I am Joseph Gutierrez I come from Khapo Owingeh or Santa Clara Pueblo. I am in the 9th grade and currently go to Pojoaque Valley High School. I participated in RezRIDERS for one year and participated in all the activities which included snowboarding, rafting, stand up paddling, high ropes course, rock climbing and worked on a community action project.
A community action project is a project that all RezRIDERS participants agree on, a thing you would like to do you give back to your community. My community action project was painting our community gym. After completing the program, I was selected to return to RezRIDERS as a youth mentor.
As a youth mentor it is my responsibility to participate in all the extreme sport activities with the participants and mentor them. In each activity we have small group discussions and I help lead these discussions. These discussions are mostly to get the participants to talk among themselves. I also take the lead in small group discussions around the community action projects to help participants think about different ideas to help the community. Some of my personal interests are cross country and track & field, I enjoy running because I am very competitive.
