Mingma Sherpa, Secretary & Director of International Relations
Mingma’s role in the organization is wide ranging, primarily serving the board of directors as the governance advisor to assist them in fulfilling fiduciary responsibilities. She has been instrumental in the creation of bylaws and provided the organization with legal expertise as a co-founding member. Additionally, Mingma is the Director of International Relations for communities within countries where RezRIDERS is believed to have interest from and potential with; where examples include Canada, New Zealand, Australia and her own country.
Mingma L. Sherpa was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. Her family is from Namche Bazar, a small yet popular tourist destination for trekkers located at the foothills of the Himalayas. While she spent most of her childhood days in Kathmandu, she traveled to Namche for her holidays which is when she developed great respect and appreciation for nature. She started hiking as a young child and today recognizes that hiking does not only allow one to connect with nature but also pushes one physically and mentally which eventually results in a sense of tranquility and one of accomplishment. This is the experience that Mingma believes that RezRIDERS presents to the participants.
Mingma is an Associate Scientist I (M.S) at the University of New Mexico Center for Participatory Research and currently involved with the Santa Clara Pueblo RezRIDERS program as an evaluator and mentor. She has completed two years of programming and has firsthand observed changes in youth throughout the year of program implementation. Through the RezRIDERS 501c3 organization Mingma hopes to stay connected to the program and watch other participants gain the empowerment, resilient, self-determination and leadership skills that she has already observed in current participants.
